Discrimination complaints are on the rise in large part due to the ease with which a resident or prospective resident may file administrative complaints with the government. Based on our experience, most of these complaints are the result of existing residents attempting to avoid their own legal obligations by asserting baseless allegations against the community managers and/or leasing consultants. As with most claims, Management will often be forced to resolve the complaint on less than preferable terms, in an effort to avoid legal expenses associated with the defense of the complaint.
